Belgium Removes Van Doors to Protect Cyclists
Belgium removed doors from all bpost vans to eliminate threats to cyclists.
Following Belgian prodigy Remco Evenepoel’s triumphant return to racing after a bpost-door attack, the country determined doors to be a privilege.
The double Olympic champion was on a training ride in December when a bpost door violently swung upon and sent the aerodynamic powerhouse to the hospital with multiple fractures.
Triumphant Return
Remco won his first race back in the peloton, truly “kicking in the door”. Many hope he will challenge for the yellow jersey in this year’s Tour de France.
When one door opens, another closes. Use it and lose it. I don’t know, we’re still working on the slogan.
Drivers looking to earn the privilege of doors are pilot testing rear-mounted radars to alert them of on-coming cyclists.
